Workshop It!

If you don’t know how to do something, workshop it!

Our culture is increasingly a DIY world, with information overload coming at us from every direction on “how to” and “why to” and “when to” do things in every area of our lives, so it is no surprise that I write a blog about workshopping your questions or problems. On the basic level of simple information, everything is available to us. It is truly fascinating (and better TV than most shows) to watch people make the amazing art and spaces and travel and exchange of ideas they do daily in the world of blogs, podcasts, documentaries, channels, content creation, and (whew, I’m almost done with this sentence) help videos.

The value is in the targeted content and applicability to your life.

You don’t watch a on hour video on motorcycles to find how to change the oil in your 2016 Triumph Scrambler 900. I know this. You watch the “How to Change the Oil in Your Triumph Scrambler 900” video. YOU have a problem and YOU workshop it.

That is what we are doing this week at Visible Music College with Visible Music Week 2025 - Rise Up. A dozen students have descended upon the studio and band rehearsal rooms at Visible Music College to specifically target their weaknesses and growing strengths in music, vocal training, keyboard skills, music theory knowledge, and audio recording. We focus on the exact needs that young people 14-25 have around music and artist development. They need collaboration around their skills development and communication with a band, working with a producer, going deeper in worship, and just meeting other young people who are building their skills in music and worship and creativity.

We are excited when we see young people reaching out for creative Christian community and brave enough to risk embarrassment for a minute or uncertainty for a day as they pursue their DIY path with short programs, workshops, songwriting, media development. Wonderful to see this week at Rise Up.

What is your path towards answering your need for more skill in music? Workshop it!
