In an effort to beautify our future home in downtown Memphis, VISIBLE SCHOOL staff and students spent last Saturday cleaning the neighborhood surrounding 200 Madison, the site for our new urban campus. With over 50 volunteers, the day was a huge sucess. Staff and students went through the streets and alleys of downtown Memphis, clearing them of trash and debris and claiming them for the Kingdome of God. The clean-up covered over 5 square miles of the city and volunteers collected 200 bags of gargbage. Supplies were provided by Memphis City Beautiful, a government funded commission whose goal is to keep Memphis a beautiful, healthy and safe place to live. The commission offers several services including the Tool Bank which is designed to keep Memphis a clean and litter-free city by loaning tools such as rakes, shovels, brooms and trash bags to groups holding cleanups. "It was encouraging to see everyone team up to make an impact on the city," one staff member comments. This is only the beginning for such events. VISIBLE SCHOOL hopes to continue serving downtown in the future as we move into the city.
