Last weekend VISIBLE SCHOOL's worship leadership students teamed up to lead us in 24 hours of continuous worship during VW24. It was an amazing time of pressing into the Lord with praise and hearing from him through prayer. There was also an alternative worship room set up with the "Armor of God." Every year our graduating seniors are commissioned to put together a final recital to showcase all they have learned throughout their time at VISIBLE SCHOOL. These recitals are meant to be a time of celebration as we prepare to say goodbye and send them out into the would. Carolina Story, a band formed by VISIBLE SCHOOL alumni Ben and Emily Roberts, just recorded a new, full length album entitled “When The River Met The Sea” with Don Chaffer of Waterdeep in Nashville @ Woodland Studios. This is their proudest accomplishment thus far. Carolina Story poured their hearts into this project over the course of 2 months and are excited to see where it goes and what God does through it. Each semester our three departments, Modern Music Ministry (MMM), Music Business Ministry (MBM), and Media Production Ministry (MPM), work together in a “mini-music-industry” to collaborate on a music project called Semester Sounds. This is a unique hands-on educational experience where music business students, producers, songwriters and musicians work together to create a full length project. This year our students are working on a collaboration for a “best of” 2009-2010 Semester Sounds including songs from our songwriters and ensemble rotation bands.
VISIBLE SCHOOL was proud to participate in a city-wide community service event this weekend, joining forces with "Memphis City Beautiful" in the organization's Partnership for a Clean Memphis. Memphis City Beautiful was founded with the goal to keep the city a beautiful, healthy and safe place to live. Through public education and beautification projects, they encourage individuals to take a greater responsibility for improving their community environments.
VISIBLE SCHOOL was excited to host John Schlitt, lead singer of the Chrisitan rock band, Petra, at the school's Application Seminar class last week. With over 30 years in the music industry under his belt, Schlitt had a great deal of input to offer our students. His story was inspiring and compelling, from his rise to fame in the 70's, his fall into drugs and alcoholism and his redemption in Christ. The MBM Pancake Breakfast is back! VISIBLE SCHOOL will host its 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 6, with all-you-can-eat pancakes and bacon for $5 per person.
Pancake enthusiasts are invited to partake in all the pancakes they can eat while enjoying live music from student bands and musical groups. In addition, guests will enjoy songwriting and pancake-eating contests. All proceeds from the breakfast will go to benefit the college’s Music Business department.
VISIBLE SCHOOL is gearing up to participate in the 2010 Folk Alliance Conference held in Memphis’ Downtown Marriot and Cook Convention Center, February 17th – 21st. The conference is an annual event designed to bring music industry professionals together from across the nation to network and celebrate the folk music community. The conference features workshops, industry exhibitors, private showcases, networking receptions, booking sessions, and much more.
