Academics

Q. Can I choose more than one program or instrument?
A.

Students are required to declare a single program. Students can add a Minor, though it will add approximately 18 credit hours to their course of study. Music students are required to declare a primary instrument. Private lessons on instruments beyond that of your primary instrument. These lessons are available provided the student is progressing sufficiently in their primary instrument. The workload for each major is heavy, so consideration of Minors or extra lessons will have to be approved through your adviser and the Dean of Academic Development.

Q. Will Visible Music College help me to get into the Christian Industry?
A.

Possibly. Students may have opportunity to tour with a band, work in the office of a booking agency, or intern in Memphis or Nashville after school. Since the music business and work in the church is handled in so many different ways, our primary concern is to equip students to be great musicians and worshippers no matter what situation they are in. A big part of college is the finding of one's calling and preparing to be a leader in the world. Opportunities arise out of God's timing, hard work, prayer, purpose, and Godly counsel. We believe Visible Music College will help equip you for your heart's desire in effective ministry, whatever form that takes.

Computers

Q. Can I bring my own laptop to Visible Music College?
A.

Yes. You are allowed to bring any computer you want to school if you desire. If you don’t want to participate in our Laptop Initiative, your computer must meet our minimum requirements and be approved by our Office of Information Technology. Approval must happen before the start of classes.

Q. Do I need a laptop?
A.

Yes. Because of the integration of computers into the curriculum at Visible Music College, we do require all full-time students to have an Apple laptop. Part-time students should check with their instructor prior to registering for a class to find out the computer requirements for that particular class.

Q. Why do I have to use a mac? I prefer to use a PC.
A.

As a college focused on training people to enter the music industry, we felt it necessary to use the same tools to train on so that when a student graduates, they are well-versed in the "tools of the trade."

By having a single computing platform on campus we have been able to integrate much more technology and hands-on training into our curriculum then we could have from a multi-platform campus.

It was a combination of these two reasons that we felt we needed to go with the mac platform. We hope that our students see this while they are here and come to enjoy using their mac as much as their PC!

Q. Does Visible Music College offer any warranty on my machine?
A.

We do not offer any warranty for personal computers. Computers purchased through Visible Music College will also get an Apple Protection Plan (a three year warranty) as part of the package.

All students are encouraged to obtain insurance for their computer to cover any repairs due to accidental damage or theft.

Q. Are the software licenses included with my purchased computer able to be transferred to another individual?
A.

No. All software licenses are registered to the individual who purchases the laptop. The software licenses are not transferable to any other individual. Software included with your purchased computer are owned solely by the purchaser; software may not be co-owned.

Q. If my laptop is broken and requires repair, is a loaner computer available?
A.

We do not have extra laptops available for students to use while their laptop is being repaired. We do however have library computers loaded with all the software (and then some!) to do your school work should you need to send you laptop in for repair. These computers are always available to students while the building is open.

Q. What are specs of the Visible Music College Computer Package?

In this case we would recommend to search for student pricing on any of the software needed for school. There are many discount retailers out there that can make getting the software affordable.

Q. If I switch majors can I switch software packages through the school?
A.

No. All software purchases are non-refundable. All software purchased as part of a laptop package through Visible Music College is owned solely by the student. If a student decides to switch majors after enrolling they will be responsible to make sure they purchase the correct software before classes begin.

Finances/Financial Aid

Q. How do I raise monetary support from my home church?
A.

It is not hard. Many people just need to know your heart! They have already seen your budding gift and would love to contribute to God's work in YOU. Talk to someone in leadership in your church about options to let the congregation know about your ministry plans and for help raising support.

Q. Will I be able to work apart from school?
A.

You can work part time. We strongly recommend that students not work more than 20 hours a week. We ask that students carefully budget their time in order to devote the needed amount of attention to homework and personal practice time. Many students have found part-time jobs very near the school, (loads of suburbia shopping and restaurants close by) and even share rides effectively.

Q. What financial aid is offered at Visible Music College?
A.

There are various forms of Financial Aid available for those who qualify. Head over to the Financial Aid section for information on Financial Aid and how to apply.

Q. Do I have to be out of High School to attend Visible Music College?
A.

No. We are excited to offer a Rising Senior Program. To learn more about this contact the Admissions Office.

Q. Why did you decide to rebrand after 10 years as Visible School?
A.

When we started the school in 200, we knew our mission and what we wanted to offer students. The name “Visible School” seemed to encompass that goal by providing what, we felt, spoke to our purpose: to be visible in the community through students’ careers. However, as we grew, and with the accreditation of our school in 2009, we wanted to incorporate “college” into the name – officially – to make sure that it is clear that we are, in fact, a music college. We feel Visible Music College more clearly explains who we are − in our name rather than with a tagline.

Q. Why did you choose “Visible Music College” as the new name?
A.

While a very amazing name, Visible School simply wasn’t clear enough as far as letting people know what we do as a college – or that we were a college at all! And we are, in fact, a music college. We want people to know that. We love “Visible” because as Christians, we feel it’s our job to be visible in our careers and communities. We’ll also incorporate “See Yourself. See God. Be Visible” as our primary tagline to further express our purpose as a music college.

Q. What does this change mean for Visible Music College?
A.

We feel that the name “Visible Music College” will clarify who we are and what we do as a college. It brings our college to the next level, signifying accreditation and a bit of prestige. Until we were accredited, the word “college” couldn’t be used in the main part of our school’s name, which created confusion on what we do.

Q. When do you plan to move to the new Downtown campus?
A.

We have moved!

As of August 1 2011, Visible Music College now resides at 200 Madison Avenue. Come say hi!

Q. What’s the status of your capital campaign? Have all of the funds been raised?
A.

We are still in need of donations to reach our final goal for the capital campaign. However, we see the light at the end of the tunnel as we have several supporters ready to assist. But we are still actively seeking donations for Into the City to complete Phase II of our campaign.
